Looking for a recommendation for an intelligent female caregiver for an Orthodox Jewish 53 year old developmentally disabled woman functioning on an approximately 2 to 3 year old level. Generally speaking physically fine and healthy, but has been experiencing walking issues which are currently being heavily investigated. Very friendly and tactile - needs a caring and loving individual, but with a firm personality. She has limited communication skills, but this is generally not a hurdle, especially after getting to know her.

The position is paid for through an agency and, after an initial period, will include health insurance and other benefits – we will assist with getting signed up, not a big deal. While the agency handles the employment side, the family manages the agency and everything else. The position is at an apartment with a private bedroom in a building with a doorman/concierge on the Upper East Side of Manhattan, one block away from Central Park – also, food is provided. This position is replacing an existing long time aide who is retiring.

While the developmentally disabled woman requires 24-hour supervision, the position will be shared with another existing aide. Experience dealing with special needs is preferred, but not absolutely necessary – knowledge of kashrus and Shabbos is a plus, but not required (we will train).
